Two Thanksgiving Crafts for Kids!

One of our favorite things about holidays are the traditions that surround them! Your Thanksgiving traditions might already include eating turkey or watching football, but there’s always room for a little more. Arts and crafts are a great way to make any holiday more memorable for both you and your little ones—they’ll have a blast making them, and you’ll have a cute keepsake to look back on throughout the years! We’ve got two festive crafts to get you started, so keep reading to get the how-tos.

Color Matching Turkey

The first craft we want to share is perfect for toddler-aged children! This Color Matching Turkey teaches your little one all about colors while boosting their fine motor skills.

Supplies

Construction paper
Cardboard
Googly eyes
Pencil
Scissors
Elmer’s glue
Colored clothespins

Directions

1) Cut out two large circles, one from a piece of cardboard and one from a piece of brown construction paper. We suggest tracing a circular item, like a large jar lid, to ensure they are the same size. This will become the body of the turkey.

2) Cut out a smaller circle from the brown construction paper to create the turkey’s head.

3) Cut out 9 more small circles in varying colors, making sure the colors you choose match the clothespins.

4) Cut out a small orange triangle for the turkey’s beak and a red squiggly shape for the snood (AKA that weird red thing that hangs off the beak).

5) Glue the two large circles together, then glue on the head, googly eyes, beak, and snood. Finally, glue the 9 smaller circles around the edge of the turkey to create the spots where the “feathers” or clothespins will go.

6) To complete the craft, have your little one match the clothespins to the colored circles. Then take them off and do it all over again!

Beaded Indian Corn

Children of any age will love making this Beaded Indian Corn! The colors are completely customizable, making each one totally unique. Plus, this is another great craft to hone those fine motor skills.

Supplies

Pipe cleaners
Plastic beads

Directions

1) Take four pipe cleaners and twist them together in the center.

2) Spread the ends apart to create the star shape pictured below.

3) Add beads to each pipe cleaner, making sure you leave 1 – 2 inches bare at the ends. To ensure our color scheme wasn’t too repetitive, we placed the beads we wanted in a pile and picked them at random.

4) Bend each pipe cleaner upward where they meet in the middle, then gather them together to create the corn shape. Twist the ends of the pipe cleaners and spread them out to make the husk.
