DIY Suncatcher Turkey

Happy Thanksgiving, mommas! We know a lot of work goes into this holiday, so we want to share a fun, easy craft your little ones can enjoy while you prep for dinner! This festive suncatcher turkey will keep your kids busy AND exercise their fine motor skills. Get the how-to below!

Supplies

Construction paper
Contact paper
Glue
Googly eyes
Hole punch
Marker
Scissors
Tape (masking and clear)

Directions

1. Begin by cutting out a large section of contact paper.

2. Lay out the contact paper with the shiny side facing upward and draw five or more feathers in whatever shape you desire. We drew pointed ovals, but you can make rounded ovals, teardrops, or even rhombuses. Don’t worry about making these perfect!

3. Next, use the hole punch to cut out circles from the construction paper. (Your kids will love helping with this step!) These circles will be used to fill in the feathers so we chose red, orange, and yellow, but you can use any colors your kids prefer!

4. When you’re finished punching holes, sort the circles by color and separate them into bowls.

5. Peel the backing off of the contact paper. Then using the masking tape, attach the contact paper to a window with the sticky side facing toward you.

6. Next, let your kids fill in the feathers with the construction paper circles, utilizing those fine motor skills!

The finished result will look something like this:

7. Once your little ones have finished their designs, cut out another piece of contact paper about the same size as the first. Peel the backing off and lay the new sheet of contact paper over the feathers, making sure the sticky sides are touching. Press and smooth the paper to get rid of any bubbles.

8. Carefully cut out each feather along the drawn lines.

9. Taking a piece of brown construction paper, draw the body of the turkey and cut it out. We used an hourglass shape for our turkey.

10. Next, cut out a beak and a turkey “snood” using scraps of red and orange construction paper and select the size of the googly eyes you would like your turkey to have.

11. Glue the beak, snood, and googly eyes on the body of the turkey.

12. Gather the feathers, fan them out, and tape them together using clear tape. Next, you can use either tape or glue to attach the feathers to the turkey’s body.

13. Finally, hang your completed suncatcher turkey on the window for a charming Thanksgiving decoration!

Have a happy Thanksgiving!
